2025 Campout #2 - Babler State Park

More than half the year has gone by and I am just now getting the FIRST camping trip in for 2025. By an unofficial measure, this might just be the second latest start to a camping season I have ever had... Second to last year which saw the 2024 season kick off August 12th. That means it's time to get moving! With the weather finally handing me a great weekend, with temps in the lower 80ºF range, it was PERFECT weather for a trip! This would be no ordinary trip either, this would be a planned short trip as it would be the first with my 4-month-old kid making this his first of many camping trips! To keep it VERY simple, in case things go horribly wrong, this trip would take us to Dr Edmund Babler Memorial State Park for one night. Of course, I would prefer a 2-night minimum but again, the outcome of this trip is completely unknown with a 4-month-old onboard so plan for the worst and hope for the best.
It would also be another first of sorts as I would be taking the Forester rather than the Colorado ZR2. This hasn't been done except once before to the yurt at Table Rock State Park several years back. Sporting the Yakima MegaWarrior would help with packing but it would still be a challenge with the extra gear required for our newest little camper. This also brought me back to basics of bringing just the necessities and very few extras because of the gear hauling constraints. As has become slightly more typical of me, either in my haste to pack or my somewhat flawed system of packing things, I managed to forget my "survival box" which has flashlights, matches, lighters, a hammer, a hatchet, and other essentials giving the box the name "survival box" because of its importance. No matter, it's a short trip, I have other flashlights, and I won't be making a fire on this trip.
The night was exceptionally peaceful for all of us which was absolutely amazing! If you have young kids, you might be encouraged to give camping a shot as well! The unfortunate truths are that everyone's kid is different and even with your own kid, behaviors today do not reflect behaviors of tomorrow especially at a young age of 4 months. So we will definitely be trying this again and we will almost certainly push for a second night just to see how it goes given this initial success! Who knows, the whole family if 3 might make the camper award this year!
Despite the short trip, the weekend was a huge success and it was great to be back in the woods again! Better late than never!

Until next time when I hopefully don't forget anything important and can remember to take more pictures!
Span of 2 days; No fuel economy stats collected on this trip.
